Garbage Disposal Installation & Replacement
Choosing the right garbage disposal is an important part of the installation and replacement process. Disposals come with varying horsepower. If you do a lot of cooking and your kitchen sink is in frequent use, we recommend a disposal with approximately 3/4 horsepower or higher. A unit with 1/3 horsepower should be sufficient for minimal, basic use. If you had a disposal before that struggled to keep up with your demands, upgrading to a stronger unit may be the right choice.
Always rely on a professional to install a disposal. There is plumbing and electrical work that is part of this process. For your safety and to protect your new disposal, reach out to our team for assistance.
Garbage Disposal Repair
It’s possible to repair a garbage disposal if it’s malfunctioning. Most units have a life expectancy of approximately 8 to 12 years. If you haven’t had your disposal very long, we can perform repairs on components like the blades or power supply. We can sometimes address leaks with sealing or tightening loose connections. If the problem is severe, we’ll talk to you about garbage disposal replacement.
To avoid the need for repairs, it’s important that you know how to properly use your disposal. For example, don’t put large amounts of grease, fats, or oils down your drain. They can congeal inside your disposal and pipes and cause clogs. Instead, wipe residue off plates and pans and put them into the garbage. You should also avoid putting starchy substances down your drains. This can lead to a buildup of material inside your pipes that a disposal can’t help. Small bits of bone, coffee grounds, eggshells, and large scraps of food are also problematic for garbage disposals and drains. They don’t break down very well.
